This Karachi Masala Millet & Peas recipe was born on one of those Sunday nights that I couldn’t find any fresh produce in my fridge but didn’t feel like going to the store. Chef Antonio Flores of Seasonality Spices sent me a couple of samples of his spice mixes and I’ve been wanting to put them to good use.

The spice mix I used is Karachi Masala, which is a Pakistani curry blend. I knew that Millet is filling and has many health benefits so I cooked it with some saute onion & peas and voila! a satisfying, healthy & tasty dinner!

What to expect:

This dish is not heavily seasoned, so don’t worry about the curry being too spicy for you. The millet has a earthy flavor and the green peas are sweet. You can find the Karachi Masala on Chef Antonio’s etsy store here. Alternatively you can watch this video to make your own mix.

Instructions
  1. In a medium size saucepan saute the diced onion on medium heat. De-glaze with a bit of water and continue stirring to prevent from burning. Add a pinch of salt and continue cooking until the onion is slightly translucent.
  2. Add the spice mix and green peas followed by the water and cook covered with a lid for about 20 minutes or until the millet is fully cooked. Continue to stir occasionally and adding more water if needed.
